Woman remains hospitalized after being thrown from horse

FPS staff report

A Mechanicstown area woman remained in Aultman Hospital at Canton Tuesday after being injured when she was thrown from her horse last week.

Nancy Owens, 64, of 5230 Norco Rd., Carrollton, was the subject of a search last Wednesday afternoon after her horse was spotted walking along Avon Rd. with a saddle on it, but no rider.

Terri VanHorne of 5091 Avon Rd. near Scroggsfield spotted the horse about 2:30 p.m. and notified the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff Dale Williams said personnel from Carroll Village Fire Department, Fox Twp. and Bergholz, along with Sheriff Dept. personnel, conducted a search of the area for Owens and a helicopter was called from the Ohio Highway Patrol, but was not needed.

Cliff Bland, an employee of Carlton Tree Farm, discovered Owens at about 4 p.m. in a field on the tree farm. She was transported to Aultman Hospital by EMT Ambulance.

Deputies said Owens had been thrown off by the horse in at least two previous incidents.
