A Carroll County sheriff's deputy was cited and escaped serious injures when the cruiser he was driving overturned on Apollo Rd (Co. Rd. 12) near the intersection of Bay Rd. (Co. rd. 27) in Lee Twp. Tuesday, May 6.
According to the Ohio State Highway patrol, Jonathan D. Schafrath, 31, of Canton, a school resource officer for Carroll county who was enroute from Harlem Springs elementary school to Willis school near Mechanicstown, was eastbound on Co. Rd. 112 when he drove off the right side of the roadway, striking a ditch and a culvert. Troopers said Schafrath's cruiser struck an embankment and overturned, coming to rest on its top.
Schafrath, who was not wearing a seat belt, was treated for minor injuries at Mercy Medical Center and released. He was cited for operating a vehicle without reasonable control.
Carroll County Sheriff Dale Williams said the cruiser Schafrath was driving had 194,000 miles on it and was due to be scrapped within a couple of weeks. Consequently, Williams said no insurance claim will be filed. |
