Amsterdam woman dies in accident

FPS staff report

Cobbler Road AccidentAn Amsterdam woman died from injuries she sustained in a
two-vehicle accident Saturday evening in Carroll County.

Anna DeMarco, 79, of Holligan Street was injured in the crash that occurred at the intersection of State Route 9 and Cobbler Road in Washington Township at about 7:11 p.m.

DeMarco was a passenger in a 2006 GMC Canyon pickup driven by Robert W. Walker, 76, of Third St., Bergholz.

Troopers with the New Philadelphia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said Walker was driving the pickup westbound on Cobbler Rd. (County Rd. 71) when he failed to yield from the stop sign at the intersection of SR 171, driving into the path of a 2001 Freightliner tractor/trailer that was hauling sand used in the hydraulic fracturing process of oil and gas wells. Allen R. English of Morrisdale, Pa., was driving the tractor/trailer.

The pickup struck the left side of the semi, which spun the truck around, ejecting DeMarco from the passenger side of the pickup.

Both passengers were transported to a hospital, where DeMarco
later died from her injuries.

Troopers said both drivers advised they were wearing
seatbelts. The crash remains under investigation.
