The Carroll County Republican Boosters elected a new president and vice president at their Dec. 6 meeting at the Ponderosa Steakhouse in Carrollton.
Dennis Strickler of 370 E. Mohawk Dr., Malvern, a former president, was selected to succeed Phil Pavick who has served as president for the past two years, and Jeff Mangun of 7080 Kensington Rd., Carrollton, was elected vice president, succeeding Strickler.
In accepting the presidency, Strickler said one of his goals is to provide more education on issues and candidates at upcoming elections, along with increasing the membership.
During the business meeting, conducted by Pavick, the membership approved revisions in its by-laws include separate offices of the secretary and treasurer, which previously was comprised of a secretary/treasurer and a corresponding secretary.
Under the revised by-laws, the elected offices will include a president, vice president, secretary and treasurer.
Length of terms are to be two years with the president and vice president elected on even years and the secretary and treasurer being elected in odd years.
Revisions made in the membership includes that only U. S. citizens having residency in Carroll County and being registered Republicans shall have the right to vote, hold office and chair committees.
Dues are payable at the first meeting of each year, which are $10 per individual and $15 per family. Members in good standing for at least 5 years and having reached the age of 70 will be granted a lifetime membership.
John H. Weir of 777 Courtview Dr. SW, Carrollton, was recognized at the meeting for having met those qualifications.
Strickler noted that some 50 people volunteered their time to work at the Republican headquarters for the Nov. 4 general election and that approximately 3/4 of the registered voters were contacted by telephone.
No Boosters Club meetings will be held in January and July. The next regular meeting is Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009. |
