Canton South pulls out narrow 67-61 win

It was close, but in the end visiting Canton South pulled out a 67-61 win over Carrollton last Tuesday in a Northeastern Buckeye Conference boys track meet.

In the dual meet, the Warriors recorded seven first place finishes.
Placing first were the 3,200 meter relay team of Eric Manzella, Colin Davis, Kyle Baker and Ethan Naylor with a time of 11:37 and the 1,600-meter relay team of Adam Young, Manzella, Bake and Davis with a time of 3:58.

Baker won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:53, while Hunter Hickman took the 300 hurdles with a time of 43.4.

Manzella also won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:12, Travis Haugh was first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.0 and Naylor won the 3,200 meter run with a time of 10:56.

Placing second were Davis in the high jump with a jump of 5'2" and the 300 hurdles with a time of 43.6, Young in the long jump with a leap of 17' 4" and the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.7, Brandon Walker in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.9, Haugh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.7, Naylor in the 1,600 with a time of 4:53.7 and Baker in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:13.9.

Placing third were Beau Bryd in the shot with a throw of 37'6", Walker in the 400 with a time of 62.5 and Naylor in the 800 with a time of 2:15.

Last Friday, the Warriors took part in the John Harstine Invitational at Claymont High School.

Carrollton placed fourth out of eight teams.

Naylor recorded two first place finishes for the Warriors. He won with 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:34.7 and set a new school record in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 9:40.

The old record of 9:44 was set in 2002 by Larry Gardner.

The 3,200-meter relay team of Naylor, Baker, Manzella and Davis placed third with a time of 8:35.8. The 1,600-meter relay team of Davis, Young, Manzella and Baker was also third with a time of 3:44.4. Davis also recorded a third place finish in the 400 with a time of 54.9.

Haugh placed fourth in the 200 with a time of 23.8.

Placing fifth were Young in the 400 with a time of 56.3 and long jump with a jump of 18' 1 1/2", and Manzella in the 800 with a time of 2:09.3.

Two relay teams also placed fifth - the 400-meter relay team of Haugh, Bryant Harris, Hickman and Walker ran a time of 47.7 and the 800-meter relay team of Haugh, Harris, Young and Walker ran a 1;39.3.

The Warriors were to be at Minerva Tuesday. They will host United Local Thursday.

Carrollton will end its regular season next week. They will host Northwest Tuesday and take part in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference meet Friday afternoon at Canton South High School.
