Class of 2010 enters Hall of Fame this Saturday

FPS staff report

Breakfast tickets for the seventh class of the Carrollton High School Athletic Hall of Fame are still available.

The induction event is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4 at the Days Inn in Carrollton. Tickets, which can be purchased through the Carrollton Athletic Department at 330-627-8410 or by calling Curt Hensley at 330-627-5135 (clhensley1@verizon.net), are $15 each which includes the breakfast buffet.

Hensley said tickets can also be purchased at the breakfast Saturday morning.

Individuals planning to attend are encouraged to get their tickets as soon as possible, however.

Those inducted into previous Hall of Fame classes are urged to attend this year’s induction.

“It would be really great to see all previously inducted Hall of Famers at the breakfast,” said Hensley.

Six individuals and one team are slated for induction this year. They are former Carrollton coach and athletic director Robert Bird, former standout golfer Brian Cogan, former CHS football coach David Copeland, former multi-sport athlete Todd English, former sprinter Tim Vandeborne and former cross country and girls head track head coach Dan Wells.

The 1971-72 undefeated wrestling team, which placed team fourth at the state tournament in 1972, will also be inducted. Members of that team will be recognized and are urged to attend the HOF breakfast.

Members of the team and inductees will also be recognized at halftime at the Carrollton football game this Friday versus East Liverpool. They should meet at the back of the press box shortly after the first quarter of play, according to Hensley, who annually organizes the Hall of Fame weekend event.

A golf outing at Carroll Meadows is slated for 1 p.m. after the breakfast event. Cost is $33 for golf and steak dinner. Proceeds benefit Carrollton athletics. Signup at Carroll Meadows or call the Carrollton Athletic Department office at 330-627-8410.
