Minerva rolls over visiting Field 35-7

Minerva 35, Field 7
The Minerva Lions opened up their 2010 season at home last Friday night with a big 35-7 win over Field.

The Lions jumped on Field early, scoring three times in the first period.

Kyle Crum set a new single-game yards-receiving record for the Lions. Crum hauled in four D. J. Marrah passes for 179 yards, including touchdown catches of 72 and 41 yards.

Marrah also hit Drew Prendergast with an 81-yard bomb on the first play from scrimmage.

Prendergast also had plenty of room to run as he finished with 104 yards on 14 attempts and a touchdown run of 50-yards.

Marrah finished with 288 yards passing on only 8 completions.

Field’s only score came on a 92-yard kickoff return by Pat Boggs in the second quarter.
The Lions will travel to St. Thomas Aquinas Friday night.

Southern Local 28, East Palestine 7
The Indians’ defense held East Palestine to just 56 total yards, one first down and forced five turnovers in winning their season opener last Friday night at East Palestine.

Josh Melhorn led the Indians on the ground with 98 yards.

Brett Hunt, Zack Puckett, Michael Hipsley and Dominic Gibson each scored a touchdown for the Indians and Kyle Exline recorded a safety on defense.
The Indians will host Lisbon Friday night.

Rittman 43, Conotton Valley 0
Rittman led 6-0 at the end of the first quarter, but blew the game open in the second quarter to take a 28-0 lead at halftime.

The Rockets were held to less than 100 yards of total offense.

Conotton Valley will be at Zanesville Rosecrans Saturday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Indian Valley 34, Sandy Valley 28
The Braves scored late in the final quarter to pull out the 34-28 win over visiting Sandy Valley last Friday night in the season opener for both teams.

Cardinal quarterback Sam Groff threw three scoring passes to Zak Monty of 14, 8 and 67 yards. Tyler Mehilis scored the Cardinals’ other touchdown on a 40-yard run. Groff hit 21-of-33 passes for 340 yards.
The Cardinals will host East Canton Friday night.
