Rossi leads South Fayette to unbeaten season

FPS staff report

Former Carrollton assistant football coach Joe Rossi has hit a grid milestone in Western Pennsylvania.

Rossi and his South Fayette Lions recently finished an undefeated season, the school’s first in 73 years.

In finishing the unblemished season the Lions captured the WPIAL Class AA - Century Conference championship. Rossi was named Coach of the Year in the conference.

Five of Rossi and team’s nine wins came on the road this past season.

The Lions, who usually make annual trips to Carrollton for seven-on-seven scrimmages, picked up a 34-6 win over South Park in the season opener, before going on to down Quaker Valley 41-12, Keystone Oaks 28-22, Sto-Rox         35-20, Northgate 40-7, Seton-La Salle 21-14, Cornell 49-0, Steel Valley 21-0 and Bishop Canevin 35-15. Keystone Oaks and Sto-Rox finished two-three in the conference.

The big turn-around came after Rossi’s team finished the 2008 campaign at 3-6.

The South Fayette head coach, who is married to the former Karley Anderson of Carrollton, was to begin guiding his Lions through the Western Pennsylvania playoffs this past weekend.

Joe and Karley are the parents of three young children.
