Lady Warriors split contests

FPS staff report

The 2009-10 girls basketball season is quickly coming to a close and tournament time is just around the corner.

After play ended last Saturday, the Lady Warriors had just four games remaining on their schedule. They were to host Louisville Wednesday and travel to Canton South Saturday.

Next week, Carrollton will host Minerva in their final NBC game of the season and on Saturday they will end their regular season by hosting New Philadelphia.

In action last week, Carrollton split two games to bring their season record to 4-12 overall and 3-8 in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference.

Last Monday in a makeup game, junior center Jen Marteney had a career high 15 points, but it was not enough as the Lady Warriors fell to host Coshocton 60-53.

Kayla Linhart added 14 points for the Warriors.

The game was tied at 5-5 at the end of the first quarter, but the Redskins outscored the Warriors 19-13 in second quarter to take a 24-18 lead at halftime. Coshocton led 42-30 at the end of the third frame.

Rachel Zimomra led the Redskins with 20 points and five rebounds, while Katy Johnson added 10 points and five boards.

Last Saturday afternoon at Marlington, the Warriors held a slim 39-37 lead entering the final frame before pulling away in the fourth quarter to post a 57-49 victory.

Linhart had a huge game for the Warriors as she poured in 21 points, including hitting 13-of-16 free throws. Junior Tessa Sanders followed with 13 points.

For the Dukes, Katie Reed led the way with 15 points.
