The Carrollton Lady Warriors picked up their first win of the season last Tuesday night at Alliance in a big way.
The Warriors scored the first 17 points of the first quarter and rolled to a 68-16 win over the Aviators in a Northeastern Buckeye Conference contest.
Kayla Linhart had a huge game for the Warriors with 23 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and five steals. Tessa Sanders followed with 19 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.
Carrollton led 20-3 at the end of the first quarter, 34-9 at halftime and 49-14 at the end of three periods of play.
Carrollton hit 30-of-76 action shots and 5-of-9 free throws. They pulled down 58 rebounds and recorded 21 steals.
Taylor Lowdermilk scored six points, but she grabbed 13 rebounds, dished out eight assists and had five steals.
For Alliance, who is winless on the year, Rose Mancini led the way with 7 points.
Alliance was 6-for-49 from the floor and 2-of-8 from the free throw line.
The Aviators finished with 38 rebounds and they turned the ball over 27 times. Takayla Payton led Aviator rebounders with 12.
In the jayvee game, the Warriors downed the Aviators 44-13.
Carrollton led 11-2 after the first quarter and never looked back. Kelsie Tullis led the way with 10 points and seven rebounds, while Annabel Vernier added eight points.
Alex Grunder added seven points and five rebounds and Naomi Young four points and five boards.
Last Saturday, the Lady Warriors took on the undefeated Marlington Dukes on the Dukes’ home court.
The Dukes took control early and cruised to a 63-43 NBC victory.
Marlington led 15-4 after the first quarter, 29-11 at halftime and 44-30 at the end of the third quarter of play.
Lowdermilk and Jen Marteney were the only Warriors in double figures with 14 and 10, respectively. Marteney also grabbed eight of the Warrior 44 rebounds.
For Marlington, who had four girls score in double figures, Jessica Gorman led the way with 17 points, nine rebounds and three steals, while Ronn’yell Hogan added 15, Mallory Chambers 12 and Katie Reed 10 points.
In the reserve game, Makenna Leslie scored 11 points and Tullis added 10 to lead the Warriors to a 38-30 win over the Dukes.
Tullis led the Warrior rebounders with seven and Naomi Young grabbed five. Vernier dished out four assists for the Warriors who improved their record to 2-4 for the year.
Carrollton was to host Coshocton Wednesday night. Next Monday the Warriors will travel to New Philadelphia and on Wednesday they will host Louisville.
