The Carrollton boys track team recorded a huge win over visiting Canton South last Tuesday night 80-48.
“It was a good win for us against Canton South,” said head coach Larry Cogan. “Canton South has great competitors and great teams year in and year out.”
Brandon Burrier recorded four firsts for the Warriors.
Burrier won the 100 (11.7) and 200 (23.8) meter dashes and was a member of the winning 800-meter relay team of Dan Irwin, Brandon Walker and Bryant Harris that finished with a time of 1:38, and the 1,600-meter relay team of Walker, Brian Myer and Smith that finished with a time of 3:58.
“He (Burrier) had a real good meet,” Cogan said. “He has really improved his strength and speed this spring. He ran cross country last fall and I think that has helped his stamina and strength.”
Also placing first for the Warriors was the 3,200-meter relay team of Kyle Baker, Myer, Joey Harter and Rob Smith that finished with a time of 8:51. Smith won the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.4; Baker won the 800 and 1,600-meter runs with times of 2:14 and 5:02, Walker won the 300 hurdles with a time of 42.1 and Myer won the long jump with a leap of 17-feet, 7-inches.
Harter placed first in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:54 and Ken Beresh placed first in the high jump with a jump of 6-feet, 2-inches.
Placing second for the Warriors were Walker in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.8, Myer in the 400 with a time of 56.8, Irwin in the 300 hurdles with a time of 43.2, Beresh in the long jump with a jump of 16-feet, 11-inches, Dakota Maple in the discus with a throw of 128-feet, 3 1/2 inches and Jacob Husted in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:00.
Placing third were Harris in the 100 with a time of 12.0 and Irwin in the high jump with a jump of 5-feet, 4-inches.
Last Thursday, the Warriors were at the Quaker Club Mini Relays at Quaker Stadium in New Philadelphia.
As a team the Warriors placed third with 61 points and recorded two first place finishes.
The 3,200-meter relay team of Baker, Harter, Husted and Andrew Boyd won with a time of 29:29.3 and the distance medley team of Burrier, Smith, Harter and Baker won with a time of 8:33.4.
Placing second at the Mini Relays were the 800-meter relay team of Burrier, Irwin, Walker and Harris with a time of 1:37.7, and the 1,600-meter relay team of Walker, Burrier, Baker and Smith with a time of 3:40.
Placing third were the high jump team of Boyd, Irwin, and Beresh with a combined jump of 15-feet, 6-inches, and the 3,200-meter relay team of Husted, Myer, Boyd and Alan Jacobson with a time of 9:21.7.
Finishing in fourth place were the long jump team of Beresh, Smith and Myer with combined jumps of 52-feet, 21/2-inches and the shot put team of Maple, Luke Baker and Seth Dolvin with a combined distance of 112-feet, 61/2-inches.
Massillon won the team title with 105 points, with New Philadelphia second with 68.
Cambridge was fourth with 60 points, Canton Central Catholic fifth with 52, Garaway sixth with 48 and Tuscarawas Central Catholic seventh with seven points.
The Warriors were to visit Louisville Tuesday. Saturday, the Warriors will take part in the annual Lidderdale Invitational at Sandy Valley High School.
Next Tuesday, West Branch will visit Carrollton and on April 27 the Warriors will be at Minerva. |
