The struggles continued for the Carrollton Warrior varsity baseball team as they went 1-3 for the week and saw their record drop to 3-6 overall and 2-5 in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference.
Carrollton began play last Tuesday against NBC rival Minerva at the Field of Dreams.
The Warriors trailed by a run at 5-4 going into the seventh, but the Lions plated seven runs in the top of the seventh for a 12-4 win.
Carrollton was held to four hits in the game with Tyler Dixon finishing with a pair of singles and a walk. Ben Atkinson added a triple.
Ryan Wright started and took the loss. He scattered eight hits, but the defense behind him committed 10 errors.
Last Thursday, the Warriors were at Minerva and played a much better game defensively, but still fell to the Lions 2-1 in 10 innings.
Carrollton tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the second inning and the score stayed that way until the 10th when the Lions scored the winning run.
“This was a great defensive game for both teams,” said Carrollton head coach Gary Cogan. “A totally different game defensively for us from the last game.”
Luke Starre pitched a solid nine innings, giving up seven hits, striking out 10 and only walking two. The defense was also solid as it committed only one error in the game.
At the plate, Starre hammered a home run and a pair of singles.
Last Saturday the Warriors were at Claymont for a doubleheader.
Carrollton dropped the first game 14-10 and rebounded to win the nightcap 18-17.
In the first game, a six-run sixth by the Mustangs proved to be the difference. The Mustangs held an 8-7 leading going into the bottom of the sixth before breaking the game open.
Carrollton out hit the Mustangs 14-13 and the Warriors only committed two errors in the game.
Tyler Sheets led Carrollton with three singles, a double and three RBIs, while Cody Walker and Jeremy Moody each added a double.
In the second game, the scoring continued as the two team combined for 35 runs.
The Warriors scored all their runs in the first four innings, two each in the first and second innings, six in the third and eight in the fourth.
Carrollton had its power bats cranking also as they hit three home runs. Starre hit a pair to go along with his two singles. He drove in seven runs in going 3-for-5 at the plate.
Anderson had a three-run home run, while Moody added two doubles and three RBIs.
Dixon added three hits, a single, double, and triple and two RBIs.
