The Warriors fast start to the season continued last Friday night as they defeated visiting Marlington 62-57.
The win improved Carrollton to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference.
Due to the long playoff run by the Dukes in football, Friday night’s game served as their season opener.
The Warriors started strong and led 14-8 after the first period of play. The Dukes closed the gap in the second quarter, but the Warriors still held a 27-25 advantage at the intermission. The hosts came out strong in the third quarter and took control, outscoring the Dukes 19-11 to take a 46-37 advantage going into the fourth quarter.
Senior wingman Tyler Sheets had a huge night for the Warriors. Sheets finished with 16 points, had a game-high 14 rebounds and dished out five assists for the Warriors.
Senior guard Johnny Lowdermilk finished with 17 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Warriors. Sophomore center Stephen Ericksen added 12 points, and senior Chris Ericksen added nine points, all three-pointers.
From the floor, the Warriors hit 18-of-50 action shots and 21-of-33 free throws. They pulled down 45 rebounds.
Marlington was led by Lucas Strouble with 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Brand McDonald and Jesse Carpenter each added 11 points.
The Dukes hit 20-of-53 shots from the floor and 11-of-20 free throws. They finished with 31 rebounds.
Carrollton was also victorious in the junior varsity game, 49-39.
Marlington led 14-9 after the first quarter, but the Warriors rallied in the second to take a 25-22 advantage at halftime. The Warriors increased their lead to 41-27 at the end of third quarter.
Joe Grubbs led the Warriors with 11 points, while Mirko Dobrijevic and Brian Meyer each added nine points.
The Warriors were to play St. Thomas Aquinas last Tuesday night, but due to bad weather conditions the game was postponed and rescheduled for Dec. 23.
Carrollton was to visit West Branch Tuesday night.
Next Tuesday, the Warriors will travel to Minerva to take on the Lions.
They will begin 2011 on the road at Northwest on Jan. 4.
