The Carrollton boys basketball team got off to a fast start last Friday night in its season opener at Claymont.
The Warriors led from start to finish in gaining a 70-32 win over the Mustangs.
Carrollton used its huge advantage in size and a strong trapping pressure defense to keep the Mustangs off balance all night.
Sophomore post player Stephen Ericksen led the Warriors with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while seniors Tyler Sheets and Chris Ericksen each added 12 points.
Carrollton led 15-9 after the first quarter, 31-15 at halftime and 45-25 after three quarters.
In the final frame, the Warriors dashed any hopes of the Mustangs coming back by outscoring the hosts 25-7.
Shooting, the Warriors hit 28-of-55 shots from the floor and 10-of-19 free throws. They pulled down 43 rebounds and only turned the ball over seven times.
For the Mustangs, who started five sophomores, Taylor Wise led the way with 13 points, while Blake Albaugh added nine and Tyler Peterson 7.
From the floor, Claymont was 11-of-40 and 6-of-14 from the line. They had 22 rebounds and turned the ball over 26 times.
In the junior varsity contest, the Warriors were also victorious, 50-34.
The Warriors led 14-9 after the first quarter, 26-15 at halftime and 37-25 going into the final frame.
Sophomore guard Zach Brown led the way for the Warriors with 21 points, while freshman Zac Fry and sophomore Mike Gaylog each added seven points.
