The Carson Company is celebrating 50 years of business in Carrollton and 85 years of being in business this month.
An anniversary celebration is planned for Sept. 13 -18 in recognition of the landmark event with a customer appreciation event Sept. 18 at the 308 East Main St., Carrollton, location. The event will include door prizes, games, food, entertainment and automobiles from years past.
Brad and Dawn Rogerson own the family business. Brad said the Carson Company was started in Cadiz in 1925 by the five Carson family brothers. They were involved in the gas and oil business and built gas stations. They had over 20 stations. At the time, they did mechanical work on vehicles at the stations and purchased parts from other businesses.
In the 1950s, they became involved in the parts business in order to supply parts for their stations. The brothers sold off the oil and gas business and retired. Jim Carson, the son of one of the brothers, purchased the parts business along with a sister and a cousin. In March 1960, the Carrollton store was opened at the intersection of Second St. SE and Main St. (the present location) when they leased the building from Wilbur (Wib) Bell which was the former home of the Bells Sales and Service. At that time, an article in the FPS noted, the new company “planned to keep in stock about $50,000 worth of automotive parts, etc. from 300 manufacturers for retail and wholesale.”
Jim Carson’s son-in-law, Brad Rogerson, became involved in the business in 1978 and, in 1993, he and Dawn purchased it from Jim Carson. Dawn has been involved with the family business with her father since the early 1970s.
In 1998, the business became a NAPA store and today is known as Carsons Auto Parts Center. Brad and Dawn’s son Brendon, is the fourth generation to be involved in the business. A 2010 graduate of Carrollton High School, Brendon is attending college this fall and plans to work in the store on school breaks and during the summer months.
“The company’s success over the last 50 years is because of the great customer support we have received from this community and the wonderful employees who work here and worked here in the past. We strive to provide the best customer service possible,” Brad said.
He noted NAPA is also celebrating its 85th anniversary in 2010. “The partnership between Carson’s and NAPA and the high quality parts they provide and our knowledgeable staff makes a great winning combination,” Brad stated. Carson’s has 14 employees, five of which have over 30 years experience each.
