Atwood Resort closing... for now
FPS staff report
October 5, 2010
Atwood Lake Resort and Conference Center officially closed Monday.
But Lodge officials were quick to point out they are hopeful and optimistic to reopen in the spring.
On hand for Sunday’s last brunch were John Meeske (left), president of Club and Resort, a Michigan-based company contracted to develop a plan to save the Lodge; John Hoopingarner, executive director of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (center) looking over a restaurant menu with Matthew Ridgeway, who has been the Lodge’s chef for the past 5 1/2 years. The large stone dining room fireplace is shown in the background.
Sunday’s closing was a bittersweet occasion for the many patrons of the Lodge, which opened and was dedicated in June 1965 and located “on the edge of paradise” overlooking Atwood Lake on SR 542, west of Dellroy in Carroll County. A good crowd was on hand Saturday night, along with the Sunday brunch.
