Carrollton matmen seventh out of 40 teams in Wheeling

FPS staff report

The Carrollton High School varsity wrestling team once again took part in the annual Wheeling Park Duals last Monday and Tuesday at Wheeling Park High School.

The Warriors finished seventh out of 40 teams with a record of 5-3.

“We are really starting to come together as a team now that we have a full line up,” said head coach Chad Hilliard. “We had a lot of good performances by freshmen and reserve wrestlers. Anytime we put someone new into the line up they went out and did their job. That is what made us successful as a team in Wheeling. I can’t wait to see this team back in action as we start to pick off some NBC (Northeastern Buckeye Conference) teams.”

Senior Seth Dolvin went undefeated in the tournament with a record of 8-0 in the 215-pound weight class.

Sophomore Joey Miller finished with a record of 7-1 in the 112-weight class and Seth Jones went 6-2 at 135 pounds.

The Warriors had wins over Cab-Midland 42-31, Nicholas County 61-9, St. Xavier 40-26, Hedgesville 38-37 and Steubenville 37-37. Carrollton won the match by criteria.

The Warriors fell to Marlington 44-22, Parkersburg South 62-15 and Butler 59-17.

The Carrollton junior varsity team won the Dover Junior Varsity Tournament over the holiday break.

Placing first for Carrollton was Jesse Young (103), Luke Galbraith (152), Jay Kelly (171), Austin Bentley (189) and Jordan Houyouse (275).
