Conotton Valley remains unbeaten with wins over St. John, Peoples Baptist

Conotton Valley 72, St. John 39
The Rockets’ Brandon Bailey and Zach Lyon each recorded double doubles as Conotton Valley rolled to a 72-39 win over host St. John.

Bailey finished with 33 points and 11 rebounds and Lyon had 14 points and 12 boards.

Brandon Galigher also hit in double figures for the Rockets with 11 points and Keaton Carrothers added 10.

Alex Francis led St. John with 15 points and Kyle Imer added 10.

Last Friday night at home, Bailey poured in 29 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Rockets to a 76-58 win over Peoples Baptist.

Lyon added 14 points and Jay Vaughan added 12 for the undefeated Rockets.

Tavon Hardin paced Peoples Baptist with 20 points and Jacob Kindt added 18 and Jordan Spencer 13.

Malvern 48, Tuscarawas Central Catholic 31
The Hornets led host Tuscarawas Central Catholic at the end of every quarter in defeating the Saints 48-31 in an Inter-Valley Conference game last Tuesday night.

Max Kapron led the Hornets with 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Mitchell Loomis also added 15 points for Malvern. Trey Tucci finished in double figures with 10.

Malvern led 10-6 after the first quarter, 23-13 at halftime and 31-22 going into the final period.

Michael Teater led the Saints with 11 points.

Malvern hit 15-of-29 action shots and 14-of-17 free throws. They had 25 rebounds and 10 turnovers.

For the Saints, they connected on 14-of-40 shots from the floor and were 0-for-2 from the line. They finished with 18 rebounds and 12 turnovers.

Last Friday night, the Hornets fell to host Hiland 55-42 in an early season battle between IVC powers.

Tucci paced the Hornets with 19 points, while Kapron added 11 points and 12 rebounds. The Hornets fell to 2-1 for the year and 1-1 in IVC play.

Malvern held a one-point lead at halftime at 23-22, but the Hawks outscored the Hornets 33-19 in the second half.

Brennan Coil poured in a game-high 21 points for the undefeated Hawks.

Sandy Valley 55, Ridgewood 42
Zach Schlimm scored a game-high 28 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead the Sandy Valley Cardinals to a 55-42 win over Ridgewood in the Inter-Valley Conference opener for both teams.

Nate Shepler added 18 points for the Cardinals.

Zak Keesee led Ridgewood with 19 points and Dillon McPherson added 17.

In a low scoring game, the Cardinals fell to IVC rival Tuscarawas Central Catholic 39-26 last Friday night at home.

Schlimm led the Cardinals with 16 points, while Shepler added 11 points.

Sandy Valley started strong, leading 11-5 after the first quarter, but the Saints outscored the Cardinals in the next three quarters for the win.

The loss drops the Cardinals to 1-2 for the year and 1-1 in the IVC.

Alliance 63, Minerva 51
The Lions trailed at the end of every quarter in falling to the visiting Aviators 63-51 in the opening Northeastern Buckeye Conference games for both teams.

The win improved the Aviators to 2-1 for the year and 1-0 in the NBC, while the Lions fell to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

Alliance led 14-12 after the first quarter, 31-24 at halftime and 44-39 going into the final eight minutes of play.

The Aviators’ J. J. Kukura poured in a game-high 31 points, including going 13-of-17 from the free throw line.

Parrish Martin added 15 points for the Aviators and Dale Dickson 10.

Evan Frost scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Lions. Jansen Locke also had 16 points for Minerva.
