Minerva 71, Buckeye Local 68 (OT)
It took an extra period, but the Minerva Lady Lions pulled out a 71-68 overtime win over Buckeye Local last Wednesday night in the opening round of the Zanesville Division II girls sectional/district tournament.
Lorin Clark led the Lions with 20 points, while Mayson Hardgrove added 14, Jacklyn Russell 12 and Shania Miller 10.
The Lions converted four three pointers in the fourth quarter and outscored Buckeye Local 22-13 to tie the score at 61-61 at the end of regulation.
Minerva outscored Buckeye Local 10-7 in the final period.
The Lions were to play No. 1 seed Edison Local Monday night.
Conotton Valley 51, Strasburg 48
The Conotton Valley Lady Rockets held off a late rally by the Strasburg Tigers for a 51-48 win in the opening round of the Claymont Division IV sectional tournament last Thursday night.
With the win, the Rockets were to play Garaway Wednesday night for the sectional championship with the winner moving on to the Indian Valley district tournament.
Olivia Bower led the Rockets with 16 points, while Chelsea Russell added 14 points.
Garaway 41, Malvern 18
The Lady Hornets battled, but Garaway proved to be just too much for Malvern in the Claymont Division IV Sectional last Thursday night.
Malvern trailed by only five points at halftime, 19-14.
However, the Pirates blew the game open in the third quarter and cruised to a 41-18 win.
Malvern’s season comes to an end with an overall record of 9-12.
Tori McKinney paced the Hornets with eight points.
Anya Misko led the Pirates with 16 points.
Ridgewood 60, Sandy Valley 23
The season came to an end for the Sandy Valley Lady Cardinals last Wednesday night at the Dover Division III Sectional Tournament as they fell 60-23 to Ridgewood.
The Generals’ Kayla Tedrick and Kelsey Miller each scored 20 points to pace Ridgewood, which improved to 14-7 for the year.
Kennedy Bowling netted 12 points, including four three pointers, for the Cardinals, who end their season with a 1-20 record. |
