The Carrollton Warrior wrestling team opened its season last Saturday at the Ken Briggs Memorial Wrestling Tournament at Copley High School.
In five dual matches, the Warriors placed second with a 4-1 mark.
Carrollton senior heavyweight Dakota Maple went 5-for-5 in the tournament. Maple recorded four wins by pin and one by forfeit.
Senior Joey Miller also recorded five wins in the tournament wrestling at 120 and 126-pounds.
The Warriors defeated Hudson 53-22, Maple Heights 51-27, Woodridge 45-24, Copley 54-12.
Against Brunswick, Joey Miller (120), Tristan Stallard (152), Justin Johnson (182), Richard Anderson (220) and Maple (285) had wins for the Warriors.
Against Hudson, Jesse Young (106), C. J. Brady (113), Miller (120), Cody Stragan (145), Stallard (152), Connor Mosley (170), Johnson (182), J. R. Hull (195), Austin Bentley (220) and Maple (285) each had wins.
Against Maple Heights, Young (106), Brady (113), Miller (120), Zach Wallace (132), Joey Knipp (138), Johnson (182), Hull (195), Bentley (220) and Maple (285) produced mat victories.
Getting wins against Copley were Young (106), Brady (113), Joey Galbraith (120), Miller (126), Wallace (132), Stragan (145), Stallard (152), Johnson (182), Bentley (220) and Maple (285).
Against Woodridge, getting wins were Young (106), Brady (113), Miller (120), Bret Rininger (126), Knipp (138), Mosley (170), Bentley (220) and Maple (285).
Brunswick went 5-0 to win the tournament. Maple Heights was third at 3-2, Woodridge fourth at 2-3, Hudson fifth at 1-4 and Copley sixth at 0-5.
The Warriors will host Claymont Saturday morning beginning at 10 a.m.
Next week, the Warriors will open their Northeastern Buckeye Conference scheduled at home against Salem next Thursday.
They will be on the road Dec. 20 at Marlington and take part in the Wheeling Park Duals Dec. 27-28.
They will be at the Coshocton Stichco Tournament Jan. 4-5. |
