Malvern 72, Toronto 37
Ten different players put points on the board as the Hornets crushed Toronto 72-37 in the opening round of the New Philadelphia Division IV Sectional Tournament last Tuesday night.
Malvern jumped out to a 20-4 first quarter lead.
Senior Max Kapron led the Hornets with 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Mitch Loomis added 14, Nick Mohr 12 and Trey Tucci 10 points.
Malvern sank 33-of-66 action shots and was just 3-of-11 from the free throw line.
Malvern held a 37-29 advantage on the boards. They only turned the ball over six times.
Freshman Blaze Glenn led the Red Knights with 19 points.
Last Saturday afternoon, the Hornets took on Steubenville Catholic Central in the lower bracket sectional final.
The Hornets started slow, but rallied to defeat Catholic Central 69-49.
Steubenville led 15-14 after the first quarter, but the Hornets came back and outscored Steubenville 15-7 in the second period to take a 29-22 lead at halftime. They outscored Central 40-27 in the second half.
Tucci and Loomis led the Hornets with 19 points each, while Kapron added 18 and Nick Mohr 11. Loomis led the Hornets on the boards with 9 rebounds.
Ryan Fletcher led Steubenville with 18 points and Zach Herrington.
Malvern was to play Hiland Tuesday night in the district tournament.
Tuscarawas Central Catholic 50, Conotton Valley 36
Using good ball control and strong defense, the Tuscarawas Central Catholic Saints upended No. 4 seed Conotton Valley 50-36 last Tuesday night in a Division IV sectional game at New Philadelphia.
The Rockets fell behind early and could not make up the lost ground, ending their fine season at 14-7.
Senior Brandon Bailey led the Rockets with 19 points, after being held to just two points in the first half. He was the only Rocket to score in double figures.
Michael Teeter led the Saints with 15 points. |
