Malvern shuts out Strasburg 34-0

Malvern 34, Strasburg 0
The Malvern defense held host Strasburg to just 79 total yards last Friday night in their 34-0 Inter-Valley Conference win.

Malvern did all its scoring in the second and third quarters.

Senior running back Cobin Plessinger scored the Hornets’ first touchdown on a one-yard run.

Senior quarterback Trey Tucci then hit senior Mitchell Haasz with a 26-yard scoring pass. Tucci then intercepted a Tiger pass and returned it 37-yards to give the Hornets a 20-0 lead at the intermission.

Plessinger scored his second touchdown of the night in the third quarter on a 13-yard run and later in the period senior Anthony Ruegg found paydirt on a 46-yard run.

Plessinger led the Hornets on the ground with 166 yards on 24 carries.

Tucci had his usual solid game at quarterback, hitting 4-of-5 passes for 99-yards with no interceptions.

Malvern will host neighboring rival Sandy Valley Friday night. It will be a huge game for both teams as each are fighting for playoff spots.

Minerva 21, West Branch 14
The Lions’ Dalton Hartshorn scored a pair of touchdowns on runs of 21 and 28 to lead Minerva to a 21-14 win over host West Branch last Friday night in a Northeastern Buckeye Conference contest.

Minerva also got a touchdown from quarterback Josie Riley on a 23-yard run in the third quarter. The run proved to be the winning touchdown for the Lions who improved to 5-4 for the year and 3-3 in the NBC.

The Lions will host Carrollton Friday night.

Garaway 14, Sandy Valley 10
Garaway’s Matt Evans scored the go-ahead touchdown late in the fourth quarter to give the Pirates a 14-10 win over visiting Sandy Valley last Friday night in an Inter-Valley game.

The loss dropped the Cardinals to 5-4 for the year and 5-1 in the IVC.

The Cardinals were held to just 158 yards on total yards.

Quarterback Lucas Dieffenbaugher scored the Cardinals’ only touchdown on a three-yard run in the first quarter.

Sophomore kicker Jacob Wagner added a 25-yard field goal in the third quarter.

The Cardinals will travel to neighborhood rival Malvern Friday night.
