Final home match doesn’t go Warriors’ way

Carrollton High School boys soccerThe Carrollton boys soccer team’s final home match of the season didn’t end on a pleasant note for the Warriors as they fell to visiting Marlington 9-1.

The Warriors’ only goal came at the 27-minute mark of the second half on a penalty shot by Matt Borland.

For Marlington, Zach Zigler led the Dukes with three first half goals, while Mitch Ewing, Tyler Lallie, Austen Zemrock, Zach Kaplan, Jake Henerson and Stephen Kenney each scored a single goal.

The Dukes held a 16-5 advantage in shots taken and in corner kicks 6-0.

Matt Ackerman had three save for the Dukes.

Carrollton goalies Mason Pasiuk and Ashton Coad combined for 13 saves for the Warriors.

Carrollton was to be at Minerva on Tuesday. They will end their regular season Thursday night at Steubenville.

The Warriors will open tournament play next Tuesday at the Steubenville Division II Sectional. They will play Beaver Local at 6 p.m. at Harding Stadium in Steubenville.
