The Carrollton boys and girls cross country teams each turned in solid showings at the OHSAA Early Season Invitational Section H race last Saturday at National Trail Raceway.
Both teams placed sixth, the girls with 174 points and the boys with 194.
For the girls, which featured 148 runners, freshman Maddie Dunlap led the way with a second place finish with a time of 19:47.
Senior Naomi Young was next in 29th place with a time of 21:51, senior Taylar Bennett was right behind Young in 30th place with a time of 21:51, freshman Hailey Wells placed 59th with a time of 23:39, freshman Maddie Formet finished 70th with a time of 24:07.84; junior Janesa Bell was 88th with time of 25:02.31, junior Cheyenne Russell placed 119th with a time of 27:01.68 and junior Harley Schandel 145th with a time of 31:13.29.
Minerva finished a distant 15th with 402 points.
Akron St. Vincent/St. Mary won the team title with 35 points. Freshman Emma Byrant from Butler won the race with a time of 19:41.
In the boys race with 21 teams and 196 runners, junior John Brown led the way for the Warriors with a sixth place finish with a time of 18:34.23. He was followed by sophomore Joey Knipp in 15th place with a time of 18:52.20, sophomore Luke Leslie was 60th with a time of 20:05.85; freshman Cole Lovett finished 62nd with a time of 20:06.32, freshman Quinten Huggett was 69th with a time of 20:14.13, sophomore Gabe Owens 99th with a time of 20:51.21 and junior John Dunlap 112th with a time of 21:12.39.
Minerva finished in 15th place with 392 points. Jesse Zhan from Mason High School was the individual winner with a time of 17:47.87.
The Warriors will be at the Newcomerstown Invitational Saturday.
Next week, Carrollton will run at the annual Salem Invitational.
