Harrison HoppelCOLUMBUS – It was a long hard road for Minerva senior Harrison Hoppel (195) at the 76th State Wrestling Meet last weekend at the Jerome Schottenstein Center.

After winning his first two Division II matches of the tournament Hoppel dropped his next two, but was still alive in the tournament for a place on the podium.

In his bout for fifth place, Hoppel defeated Tyler Bridwell from Hamilton Ross 4-1 in overtime to place fifth.

Carrollton had four wrestlers who battled hard, but were unsuccessful in their attempts to place.

Warrior senior Austin Miller (182) fell to Jack Harris of Urbana 4-1 in his opening match, dropping him into the consolation bracket where he recovered to defeat Kenny Jackson of Mantua Crestwood 4-2 in overtime.

On Friday, Miller dropped his first match 3-1 to Brandon Rogers from Northwestern, knocking him out of the tournament.

Also representing Carrollton were juniors Tristan Stallard (145) Austin Bentley (220) and sophomore Tyler Dodd (195). Each wrestled well, but failed to win a match.

Minerva had two wrestlers who failed to make it past Thursday night, Nate Smith (120) and Dalton Hartshorn (145).
