Marlington too much for Carrollton; Warriors fall 31-8

Carrollton High School football vs MarlingtonThe Marlington Dukes kept their hopes alive for a share of the Northeastern Buckeye Conference title with a 31-8 win over Carrollton last Friday night at Community Field on senior night.

With the loss, the Warriors fall to 4-5 for the year and 2-4 in the NBC, while the Dukes improved to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in league play.

Louisville defeated Alliance 24-21 on a last second field goal to remain undefeated in the NBC.

Marlington used its powerful running game and turned four Warrior turnovers into points.

Carrollton’s only touchdown came in the third quarter on a one-yard run by junior quarterback Zade Deitz. Senior running back Lynk Tranter added the two-point conversion run.

The Dukes pounded between the tackles 52 times for 304-yards. They held a 304-114 advantage in rushing yards.

Marlington running back Adam Blake had a huge game for the Dukes. He carried the ball 29 times for 195-yards and scored on runs of 13 yards and 1 yard.

Marlington quarterback Shawn Kirk had another solid game for the Dukes as he hit 7-of-13 passes for 88 yards and rushed 13 times for 91-yards. He scored the Dukes’ final touchdown on a 13-yard run. Earlier, he tossed a 12-yard scoring strike to Chris Andrews.

For the Warriors, junior running back Tyler Dodd rushed for 57-yards on 11 attempts on limited duty due to injury.

Tranter added 35-yards on eight carries and Deitz 24-yards on 13 attempts.

Deitz struggled throwing the ball as he hit only 6-of-18 passes for 72 yards and three interceptions.

Defensively for the Warriors, senior Adam Warner had a fumble recovery and the defensive unit recorded six tackles for losses.

Brody Robinson and Warner each had double-digit tackles for the defense. Robinson had 12 tackles and eight assists, while Warner finished with 10 tackles and six assists.

The Warriors will end their 2013 season on the road Friday night at archrival Minerva.

The Lions pulled out a close 21-14 win over host West Branch.
