The Carrollton High School boys golf team made a run, but came up just short at last Tuesday’s Division I East/Southeast District Sectional Golf tournament at the Par 70 Lakeside Golf Club in Beverly.
The Warriors finished fourth overall with a 328, just one place away from qualifying for the District Tournament.
However, the Warriors did have one player qualify for the district tournament, junior Cale Pozderac, who placed second of the three individuals who qualified. Pozderac shot a 76.
Pozderac was to play in the district tournament Tuesday at the Apple Valley Golf Course for a trip to the State Tournament.
“The guys played well for only seeing the course on Monday, the day before the sectional,” said Carrollton head coach Gary Cogan. “I told the guys that we needed to shoot around 330 to get out. So I am not disappointed in their effort because we actually shot below our target score.”
The top three teams, and top three individuals not on an advancing team qualified for the district tournament.
Pozderac was followed by Carrollton golfers Mason Albrecht with an 82, Troy Fairclough with an 84, Jan Mailander with an 86 and Tyler Shuman with an 89.
Marietta won the tournament with a 304.
Dover was second with a 311 and Logan third with a 322.
