Carrollton High School girls cross country
Carrollton freshman Maddie Dunlap won her first varsity race last Saturday at Marlington.

Carrollton freshman Maddie Dunlap won her first varsity cross country race in convincing faction Saturday morning at the annual Ashley White-Stump Memorial Invitational at Marlington High School.

Dunlap ran a time of 19:43.7, 12 seconds better than second place finisher senior Tori Reeves of Marlington.

Overall, the Lady Warriors placed second with 80 points. Crestwood took the team title with 41 points.

Dunlap was followed by Taylar Bennett in seventh place with a time of 21:00.9, Hailey Wells in 19th place with a time of 23:35, Naomi Young in 22nd place with a time of 21:41.1, Maddie Formet in 58th place with a time of 23:00.2, Janesa Bell in 70th place with a time of 23:46.4, and Lindsay Schandel in 77th place with a time of 24:02.5.

Host Marlington placed fourth out of the 11 teams with 88 points.

On the boys side, the Warriors finished in sixth place with 199 points.

Carrollton senior Noah Stertzbach ran last Saturday at the Marlington Invitational.

John Brown led the Warriors with a 10th place finish with a time of 17:58.3. He was followed by sophomore Joey Knipp in 29th place with a time of 18:47.1, freshman Cole Lovett 50th with a time of 19:35.3, Quinten Huggett in 63rd place with a time of 19:52.6, sophomore Luke Leslie in 65th place with a time of 19:54.1, sophomore James Smith in 79th place with a time of 20:10.6 and Gabe Owens in 81st place with a time of 20:18.2.

A total of 13 teams and 174 runners took part in the race with Marlington finishing second in the team standings with 45 points. The Dukes Ty Raybuck won the individual title with a time of 16:48.6.

The Warriors will be at the Tiffin Invitational Saturday and at the Meadowbrook Invitational next Saturday.
