The Carrollton High School boys soccer team has a new coach.

He may be new to coaching, but not new to the Carrollton soccer program.

Josh Hendershott was a four-year member of the Carrollton soccer program and is now its new head coach.

“It is exciting to be coaching a team that you used to play for,” Hendershott said. “I am thankful for the opportunity to be the coach and that Mark Spears, Dave Davis and the Carrollton Board of Education have faith and confidence in me to lead this team. I am looking forward to it.”

The team has low numbers this season with only 13 players on the roster, but 12 of them are returning lettermen.

Returning are senior Greg Matkowski, juniors Matt Borland, Jerry Jones and Sam Dowell, and sophomores Austin Keefer, Austin Bregenzer; Christopher Kugler; Jonathan Atkinson, A. J. Vance, Trenton Fernandez; Daniel Leary and Cameron Haught.

Also on the roster is senior Daniel Soravillalte.

“Despite the low numbers, these boys have shown their dedication coming out every day and putting their hearts on the field. This hard work will certainly play out during the season. They know we have to be in top condition and they have done an amazing job of getting there.”

In just a few short years, the Northeastern Buckeye Conference boys soccer has become a very competitive sport.

“I expect a very tough NBC season,” noted Hendershott. “It has always been a challenging conference and we are expecting no less this season. We are going to keep teams guessing and are expecting to turn some heads this year. We expect to finish in the top half of the conference and have a record over .500. It is going to be a great season this year and we are excited for it to begin.”

The Warriors will open next Tuesday at home against West Branch. They will host United Local on Sept. 1.
