The Carrollton High School girls cross country team will have a good mixture of youth and experience this upcoming season.
The Lady Warriors have five returning letter winners from last year’s team.
Back are seniors Naomi Young, who was All-Northeastern Buckeye Conference and Eastern District first team and a regional qualifier; Taylar Bennett, who was second team All-NBC last season, and Lindsay Schandel.
Juniors returning are Cathy Weyand, All-NBC honorable mention last year, Rachel Devine and Harley Schandel.
“Our great senior leadership should blend well with the established freshmen class coming in,” said Head Coach Lisa Baker. “Our focus will be on the post season as the young runners adapt to the program.”
Carrollton has a large number of promising newcomers.
They are senior Taylor Caldwell, juniors Janesa Bell, Cheyenne Russell and Lexi Kurtz and freshmen Maddie Dunlap, Hailey Wells, Maddie Formet, Morgan Timberlake, Amanda Barstow and Mia Moore.
The Lady Warriors will open their 2013 season Aug. 31 at the Newcomerstown Invitational. They will be at the Dover Invitational on Sept. 7 and take part in the Boardman Spartan Invitational on Sept. 14.
