The Carrollton Lady Warriors dug themselves into an early hole and were unable to dig themselves out. As a result they fell to Maysville 68-35 last Thursday night in the Division II district semifinal at Zanesville High School.
The Panthers put together a 12-0 run in the first quarter and led 16-6 after one quarter.
They extended their lead to 39-20 at halftime and 52-27 at the end of the third quarter.
Madison Smith and Kayla Russell led four Panthers in double figures with 13 points each, while Kelsei Kirkbride added 12 points and 10 rebounds. Capria Hall added 10 points for the Panthers and Brooke Smith finished with seven points, five steals and three assists.
The win improved the Panthers outstanding season to 24-1, but they fell to state-ranked West Holmes 55-42 in the district championship game last Saturday night.
Sophomore Monica Starre and freshman Ali Poole led the Warriors against Maysville with nine points each.
The Warriors were just 15-of-46 from the floor. They had 21 rebounds and turned the ball over 14 times.
Maysville hit 23-of-49 action shots.
The Lady Warriors end an excellent season with 19 wins and six losses. |
