|Returning to lead the 2014 Carrollton Lady Warriors golf team are from left to right - Olivia Albrecht, Anna Truman, Elizabeth Domer and Josie Townsend.
It may be hard to believe, but the Carrollton High School girls golf team heads into its fifth season of play.
Last year’s young Warrior team struggled some, finishing with an overall record of 7-10 and fourth in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference with a 2-6 mark.
With the experience gained last season, head coach Todd English believes this team will be much improved.
“We return the core of our team from a year ago and therefore our experience should be beneficial,” English said. “We feel we can compete with most teams that we play.”
Four juniors and a sophomore return to lead this year’s team. Back are juniors Olivia Albrecht, Elizabeth Domer, Anna Truman, and sophomore Josie Townsend.
Albrecht averaged 47.1 per outing, won the NBC tournament and earned All-NBC first team honors.
Domer averaged a 48.8 per round, placed fourth in the NBC tournament and was named to the second team All-NBC.
Newcomers to this year’s team will be freshmen Grace Bartlow and Emily Kean.
How about the NBC?
“Louisville, Marlington and Minerva will field solid teams,” noted English. “We hope to be there at the end of the season battling for the league championship.”
The Lady Warriors opened their season Monday at home against Louisville. They were to take part in the Tri-County Preseason tournament on Tuesday. They were to travel to Salem Thursday and compete in the Eastern District Open Friday at the River Greens Golf Course.
Next week, the Lady Warriors will host a tri-angular with Alliance and Columbiana on Monday, travel to Louisville on Wednesday.
