As if on cue, the weather broke and the Carrollton Warrior baseball team was able to open its season last Saturday at home against East Liverpool.
It was quite a season opener for Carrollton senior Jeremiah Lowery. Lowery tossed an opening day no hitter for the Warriors, who pounded out 13 hits in defeating the Potters 9-0.
Lowery struck out nine Potter batters and walked three. He also hurt the Potters at the plate with a bases loaded triple and had four RBI for the game.
Senior Mirko Dobrijevic recorded three hits for the Warriors, while Adam Warner, Zach Fry and Mason Voulgares each added two hits.
The Warriors had a huge third inning, plating six runs. They added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
In the second game, Troy Fairclough and Voulgares combined for a two-hitter as the Warriors defeated the Potters 11-1.
Carrollton plated four runs in the bottom of the first and added three in the second, two in the third and two in the sixth.
Zach Brannick led the Warriors with a pair of hits, including a double and four RBI.
Andrew Collins, Warner, Fry and Fairclough also had two hits each.
The Warriors out-hit the Potters 12-2. Shane Dozier and Rick Long each had a single for the Potters.
