It wasn’t as easy as their semifinal game, but the Carrollton Lady Warriors pulled out a 52-48 win over Steubenville in the upper bracket sectional championship at the Union Local Division II sectional last Tuesday night.
With the win the Warriors advance to the Zanesville District Tournament Thursday night where they will play Maysville at 8 p.m.
The win improved the Warriors to 19-5 for the year.
The game was close throughout, but the Warriors were in control, leading 15-7 after the first quarter, 21-17 at halftime and 33-32 going into the final period.
Sophomores Monica Starre and Savana Lowery led the Warriors with 13 points each, while freshman Ali Poole added 11 points.
From the floor, the Warriors hit 22-of-61 action shots and 8-of-19 free throws. Lowery led the Carrollton rebounders with 10.
For Big Red, which ended the season with an 18-8 mark, Emily Maslowski led the way with a game-high 18 points and Lysaih Rice added 10 points.
Shooting, Big Red hit 15-of-46 shots from the floor and 12-of-21 free throws. They turned the ball over only seven times. They collected 29 rebounds with Rice grabbing 11.
If Carrollton wins Thursday, the Lady Warriors will play Saturday night at 7 p.m. against West Holmes or Indian Creek for the district title.
In the lower bracket championship game, Indian Creek defeated Minerva 59-47 to end the Lions’ season.
The Redskins led 11-8 after the first quarter, 22-17 at halftime and 43-31 going into the final frame.
Josie Chaddock and Lorin Clark led the Lions with 12 points each.
The Redskins will play No. 3 state-ranked West Holmes Thursday night at Zanesville.
Bre Berryman led the Redskins with a game-high 26 points and Bethany Davis added 12.
