Lady Warriors unload on Beaver Local 91-30

FPS staff report

Carrollton High School girls basketball Annabel Veriner
Warrior senior Annabel Veriner goes in for one of the Warriors many layups last Wednesday night against Beaver Local.

The Carrollton Lady Warriors only hit one three pointer in the game against Beaver Local in the opening round of the Union Local Division II Sectional Tournament.

It wasn’t that they couldn’t shoot three’s. It was because they didn’t need them.

The Warriors’ high pressure defense forced 41 Beaver Local turnovers, including 32 steals, in rolling to a 91-30 win.

Five Warriors scored in double figures. Senior Taylor Lowdermilk led the way with 20 points and nine rebounds. Freshman Ali Poole added 14 points and eight steals, sophomore Savana Lowery finished with 14 points and six rebounds, senior Annabel Vernier added 12 points and six steals and sophomore Kelsey Voll had 10 points, six rebounds and three steals.

Carrollton led 25-6 after the first quarter. The Warriors trailed 6-5 early, but ended the quarter on with a 20-0 run. They led 48-16 at halftime and 75-26 after three quarters.

Carrollton hit 37-of-94 action shots and 16-of-21 free throws. They finished with 42 rebounds and only nine turnovers.

Courtney Ricciardi led Beaver Local with nine points and five rebounds.

The Warriors were to play Steubenville in the upper bracket sectional final Tuesday night with the winner advancing to the Zanesville District tournament.
