South just gets by Warriors who rebound against Lions

FPS staff report

Carrollton High School boys basketball
The Warriors Zade Deitz comes down with a rebound in last Friday's win at Minerva.

The Carrollton boys varsity basketball team has reached the midway point of their season.

After play last week, the Warriors were 9-4 overall and 4-3 in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference.

Canton South and Salem are the top two teams in the NBC, each with one loss, with Alliance close behind with two losses.

Last Tuesday night at Canton South, a fourth quarter rally by the Warriors came up just short. Carrollton outscored the Wildcats 13-8 in the fourth quarter, but still came up a point short as the unbeaten Wildcats carried off a 46-45 win.

Senior Stephen Ericksen paced the Warriors with 18 points and nine rebounds, while sophomore Caleb Pasiuk added 12 points and senior Andrew Collins 11.

The Wildcats led 17-8 after the first quarter, 31-24 at halftime and 38-32 going into the final period.

Kyle Deckerd led the Wildcats with 16 points, while Trey Taylor added 12 points to go along with his eight rebounds.

Last Friday night the Warriors were on the road at Minerva.

Carrollton struggled in the first few minutes of the game, but pulled out a 63-48 win over their arch rivals.

Carrollton trailed early, but Pasiuk came into the game midway through  the first quarter and hit two quick three-pointers to give the Warriors the lead, which they would never give up.

Ericksen led the Warriors with 16 points, including hitting 6-of-7 free throws, and pulled down seven rebounds. Pasiuk finished with 14 points and five rebounds and sophomore Zade Deitz added 10 points and five boards.

Carrollton led 15-10 after the first quarter, 31-26 at the intermission and 48-34 going into the final eight minutes of play.

Shooting, the Warriors connected on 22-of-54 action shots and 14-of-16 free throws. They had 33 rebounds and only six turnovers.

Minerva was led by junior Jantsen Locke with a game-high 18 points, while junior Cody Parrish added 14. Senior Evan Frost added four points and a game-high nine rebounds.

From the floor, the Lions hit 17-of-43 action shots and 12-of-18 free throws. They had 20 rebounds and turned the ball over 10 times.

The Warriors also won the junior varsity game, 51-43.

Daniel Leary led the Warriors with 13 points, while Brandon Johnson added 12 and Luke Clay eight.

Carrollton led 14-11 after the first quarter, 31-22 at halftime and 44-30 going into the fourth quarter.

The Warriors will travel to Louisville Friday night to begin the second half of their season. On Sunday, they will take part in the North Canton Hoover Classic where they will play Orrville at 6 p.m.

Next week, they will host Marlington on Friday night.
