Returning letter winners for Carrollton High School’s softball team are from left - Lyndsey Titus, Makenna Leslie, Morgan Hepner, and Monica Starre.
The Carrollton varsity softball team will be under new leadership this year.
Travis Ledford, a long time assistant, is now the head coach of the Lady Warriors after the resignation of John Cox following last season.
Carrollton had an excellent 2013 season, posting an overall record of 19-6.
Ledford takes over a team that will be young and very inexperienced.
“We will be young this year,” Ledford said. “We only have two seniors on the roster and four returning letter winners who will be the foundation and provide leadership for the team.
“Our goals aren’t high, just play one game at a time, work on executing plays and playing to our potential. If we can do these things, we hope to compete in the NBC.”
Returning for the Warriors are seniors Morgan Hepner and Makenna Leslie in the outfield, junior Monica Starre at second and sophomore Lyndsey Titus at third.
Promising newcomers to this year’s team are sophomore Andrea Aston at first and freshmen Kaitlin and Courtney Shine at short stop and catcher.
Rounding out the varsity roster are senior Schyler Fennimore, junior Tabitha Beadnell and freshman Brenna Campbell.
Assisting Coach Ledford this season will be Bre Shetler as varsity assistant. Kelly Stoneman will coach the junior varsity and Ron Colaprete the freshmen.
The Warriors will open their season Saturday with a double header with East Liverpool beginning at 11 a.m.
Next week, they will be at New Philadelphia on Monday and host Marlington in their Northeastern Buckeye Conference opener on Tuesday. Thursday they will be at West Branch and on Saturday they will be at United Local for a double header with the Eagles beginning at 11 a.m.
