The Carrollton High School wrestling team began the tough road to the State Tournament last weekend in a big way.

The Warriors dominated the 10-team field in winning the Buckeye Local Division II sectional tournament with 269.5 points.

Carrollton will send 12 wrestlers to this weekend’s District Tournament at Claymont High School.

The Warriors had six sectional champions, three runnersup, one third place finish, two fourth place finishes and a fifth place finish.

The top four wrestlers in each weight class qualified for the district tournament.

All Carrollton wrestlers had at least one win.

Beaver Local was a distant second with 197.5 points and Steubenville third with 192 points.

“We are very happy with the way all the guys performed over the weekend,” said Carrollton head wrestling coach Ken Pasiuk. “This was a great team effort with all 14 wrestler contributing.

“We are excited and looking forward to the districts and the guys will be battling hard in each and every match.”

Winning sectional championships for the Warriors were Senior C. J. Brady (106) who won a 14-11 decision over junior Alex Potts from East Liverpool, junior Jimmy Galbraith (145) who took an 11-3 major decision over sophomore Shawn Livingston from Steubenville, junior Austin Brooks (160) who won a 3-1 decision over junior Josh Barber from Beaver Local, junior John Dunlap (182) who won a 4-2 decision over Tristan Jones from Buckeye Local, junior Tyler Dodd (195) who pinned senior Stone Morgan from John Glenn in 1:40 and senior Austin Bentley (220) who pinned senior Luke Larson of John Glenn in 3:37.

Placing, but not qualifying for the district meet, was senior Brennon Thomas (170). He will be an alternate for the district tournament.

The competition gets much tougher this weekend at Claymont.

Claymont won its own sectional with 335 points and had 10 sectional champions crowned.

Minerva took part in the Claymont tournament and placed fourth overall with 137 points.

The Lions had one sectional champion, senior Harrison Hoppel in the 220-pound weight class. Minerva will send six wres
tlers to the Claymont sectional.
In Division III tournament at Sandy Valley, the Cardinals placed fifth with 137 points and will send six to the Heath district meet. Senior Cole Hudson (195) was the Cardinals’ loan champion.

The Malvern Hornets took part in the tournament, but failed to qualify any wrestlers to the district.
