Minerva Art Expo features over 600 entries

FPS staff report

Some 600 art wood and photograph projects were entered in Minerva High School's Art Expo 2008 held last Thursday evening in the commons at the high school.

The various entries and projects were open for public viewing during the evening where refreshments were served by volunteers and music was provided by Minerva High School students.

Winning top awards in the art show judging were Katie Rowles, a junior who received the Alumni ribbon award with her entry titled Dance of Faith featuring a ballet dancer; Alex Doak, a senior who won Best in Show with his art entry titled “Molten Metal” and Bob Hill, a senior who received the top Senior Portfolio plaque for his collage of art entries. Judges for the art show were Carol Mendenhall of Canton and Megan Pankuch of Alliance.
Art entries which received superior ratings and their titles included the following:

Bobby Hill, Self Portrait and Torn Apart and Glued Back Together; Shaun Bunch, Graffiti; Kathy Slack, Camo; Kara Moore, Three Beauties; Bre Landis, Portrait of a Lady; Brennan Wollam, The Wave; Hannah Riley, Self Portrait and Shawn's Leg; Lloyd Raffle, Mr. Michael; Katie Glover, My Suffering; Dan Beaber “Kathy”; Florie Heine, Train Station, and Melanie Kast, Color Wonder.

Entries receiving excellent ratings were:
Christen Cheuvront, The Princesses and Twinkies; Sarah Krizon, Table Bottles; Katie Glover, Flowers; Alex Doak, Farm Sculpture, Music is Life and Construction; Ryan Cayton, Thumb Land 2; Kathy Slack, Patchwork Music and What's Left of the Band Room; Kara Moore, Pieces of Me and Construction; Samantha Walter, Hayden; Elizabeth Moegling, Woman with Weird Ponytail; Melanie Kast, Holy Cow; Brittany Buccini, Grilled Cheese; Emily Moegling, George Clooney and Sit Your Butt Down; Josh Hiles, Clamp and Cock-a-Doodle-Do; Ashley Metzger, AMM and Rock On; Lloyd Raffle, Rock & Roll Royalty; Katlynn Stoll, Walk Thru the Garden; Jake Tilton, Clint Eastwood; Kara Kowars, Bubble Gum; Britanny Lyons, Australia; Alex Hein, Into the Dark, and Brody Lab, Black and White of Kathy.

Superior ratings - Adam Hayes, Richie Walters, Evan Ruff, Dylan Green and Emily Barrick, all tables; Nathen Spiker, bookshelves, and Shay Hertel, cutting board.

Excellent ratings - Ellis Battisa and Alex Doak, both tables; Keith Arnold and Alex Doak, both cutting boards, and Keith Arnold, key holder.

Honorable Mentions - Athena Spinell and Josh Boyd, both tables.

Photography

Superiors - Emily Moegling, Tell a Story With Pictures; Emily DePalmo, Bits and Pieces and Nikol Wilson, Bitts and Pieces.

Excellents - Emily Moegling, Facial Expression, and Erika Davis, Peek-a-boo.
