Minerva High School was well represented at the District 13 Science Day held March 29 at Mount Union College. Of the 23 students who took 17 projects to be judged, 12 projects received superior ratings and 5 received excellents.
Seniors with superior ranking included individual projects by Nicholas Michel, Jeffrey McPherson and Emily Sechrest. The team of Kourtney Betler and Jillian Green also earned a superior.
The junior team of Kelsee Fankhauser and Riley Jobes and the team of Elliot Hall and Matt Granger were awarded superiors as were individual projects by Kelly Maffett, Erica Toussant and Christen Cheuvront.
Sophomore individuals Christian Wallenfelsz and Connor Freeland and the team of Andrea Michel and Kathryn Blocher also received superior ratings.
In addition, students earned several special awards. The team of Kourtney Betler and Jillian Green received an award from the American Meteorological Society. Erica Toussant earned recognition from the Society for Invitro Biology. Kelly Maffett was given a first place $100 award by the Ohio Optometric Association.
Diebold selected Emily Sechrest for a second place award of $75 and the team of Elliot Hall and Matt Granger for a first place award of $150. The team also received a Governor’s Award of Excellence in Computer Science.
Christian Wallenfelsz was given a second place Ohio Optometric Association Award for $50 and an Award of Excellence from the U. S. Navy.
All of these projects qualified to register for State Science Day to be held May 10 at Ohio State University, according to Mrs. Molly Winters, Science Department coordinator at Minerva High School. |
