A new Director of Special Education/Work Study Coordinator was hired by the Edison Local Board of Education at its Nov. 16 meeting.
Bill Beattie, who resigned as head baseball coach at Edison High School, was hired for the position on a three-year contract with a starting salary of $59,000. The board also added Beatie to the administrative staff salary and fringe benefit agreement.
In other personnel items, the Board:
- APPROVED a family medical leave for Mike Cernansky, a special education teacher at Edison High School beginning Nov. 2 and ending Nov. 28.
- ADDED Debra White to the classified substitute list.
- APPROVED the following certificated supplemental contract recommendations: Jackie Harris, Stanton Middle school band director; Marc Sansonce, Springfield Middle School band director.
- APPROVED the following classified supplemental contracts: Jeremiah Hinerman, Stanton junior high wrestling; Candy Mille, Stanton winter cheerleading, and William Mills, Springfield boys' basketball.
- APPROVED a family medical leave for Mary Lynn Ratliff, a cook at Pleasant Hill elementary school, beginning Oct. 23 and ending Nov. 21.
- APPROVED a family medical leave for Hollie Boyuk, a bus driver, beginning Oct. 31 and ending Nov. 15.
- EMPLOYED Robert Waggoner as custodian at Stanton Middle school.
- EMPLOYED Larry Moore as a bus driver.
- ACCEPTED a resignation for retirement purposes from Wendy Straub, a teacher at Stanton Middle school with 30 years of service.
- APPROVED the Administrative secretaries job descriptions and a fringe benefit agreement which provides for each administrative secretary to pay 10% of their total health care premium effective Jan. 1, 2007.
- VOTED to reimburse Deana Wiley for transporting her children to school for the 2006-07 school year at a rate equal to the Type IV established reimbursement rate.
- APPROVED a request from Doug Thoburn, Edison High School principal, approving the year-end schedule for the class of 2007.
- APPROVED revised Board policies/Administrative guidelines and the addition to the Edison High School Student handbook.
- APPROVED a new/revised/replacement policies recommended by the North Eastern Ohio Legal Association and/or statutory requirements.
- APPROVED a new board policy regarding Life Threatening Allergies.
- APPROVED the October board meeting minutes after amending a resolution to read: The Edison Board has become aware of a mistake in billing the Toronto School District by the Treasurer. After spending six plus hours discussing the situation, the Edison Local Board has decided a reprimand to the party involved is in order. The board and their attorney are actively pursuing collection of the moneys in the amount of $40,250 owed to us by Toronto School District for services rendered.
- APPROVED sending a letter to the family of Becky Evanosky, a former elementary teacher recognizing her for her 33 years of services.
- HEARD a concern about the parking conditions at Edison High School from Ted and Cassie Elliot, parents.
- RECEIVIED notification from the Jefferson County Anti-Drug Abuse Coalition regarding Deputy Scott Renforth as being chosen as Volunteer of the Year. Renforth, who is the school district's resource officer, was recognized for going above and beyond the call of duty.
- RECEIVED notification from State Superintendent Susan Tave Zelman congratulating Edison Local School District on advancing to the designation of Effective for the 2005-06 school year on the State's Report Card.
- RECOGNIZED Edison employees for raising $779 for the Lee Denim Day Breast Cancer fundraiser in which 154 Edison High School students participated
- HEARD poetry selections from Mrs. Hartman's 5th grade students.
- SET the Board's next regular meeting for Thursday, Dec. 21, at 7 p.m. at Stanton Middle School. |
