Buckeye Career Center board hires two new employees

FPS Staff Report

Two new employees were hired by the Buckeye Career Center Board of Education at its June 17 meeting.

Mrs. Alisha Numbers was employed as math instructor on a new one-year limited teaching contract for the 2008-09 school year and Mrs. Sally Huston was hired as a new one-year limited non-certified support staff cafeteria worker for the 2008-09 school year. She succeeds Mrs. Dian Longacher who retired as a full-time employee.

The Board also reassigned Mrs. Melissa Long, who taught at the Learning Resource Center, as instructor of the new "teaching professions" senior only program for the 2008-09 school year. Mrs. Long’s contract currently is a three-year limited teaching contract expiring in 2010. Mrs. Long will teach the new program for future teachers.

In other business, the Board approved extended service contracts for the 2008-09 school year for Bruce Stauffer and Tom Weygandt, both 30 days for the Farm Business Planning Analysis (FBPA) program. Ms. Ann Gano was also hired as an adult education FBPA consultant for the 2008-09 school year.

Employed as adult education instructors for the next school year were:
John Barr, HRD coordinator; Sandra Bodnar, Medical Careers coordinator; Robert Bollon, fork lift instructor; John Allen Daugherty, Public Safety instructor, assistant public safety instructor and fire coordinator; Bruce Finnicum, Customized Welding instructor; Ann Gano, Student Services assistant; Robert Gasser, GED examiner; Debbie Immel, ABLE/GED coordinator; Kayla Leggett, PN student secretary; Elaine Miller, assistant to the ABLE/GED coordinator and Adult Education Administrative assistant; Barb Murphy, registration assistant and GED examiner; Cheryl Ramos, Adult Education Assessments/Counselor; Brittany Smith, Adult Education student secretary; Patricia Smith, Practical Nurse coordinator; Robert Snyder II, Public Safety instructor; assistant Public Safety instructor and EMS coordinator; Jennifer Taylor, PN instructor; Lindsey Thompson, Adult Education student scanner; Marcia Lauthzenheiser, Berhline Rose, Sharon Stocker and Jeanne Wieland, all ABLE/GED instructors; Pong Sixiengmay and Sharon Stock, both counselor/job coach.

In other action, the Board:

 APPROVED a continuing teacher contract for Mrs. Kay Wise, a math instructor for the 2008-09 school year.

 APPROVED the following teaching staff as student club advisors for the 2008-09 school year: Mike Starlin and Mrs. Debbie Smith, Family Career Community Leaders of America; Mrs. Nancy Alam, Business Professionals of America; Mrs. Sharon Davis and Todd Kendle, both FFA co-advisors; Rick Strimbu, prom advisor, and Mrs. Jennifer Mulvaney, Leadership Council advisor.

 APPROVED Mrs. Chris McCoury, school nurse for a revised contract effective for the 2008-09 school year moving her on the negotiated certificated salary schedule from master of education to master of education plus 15 semester hours.

 ACCEPTED the retirement resignation of John May, custodian/maintenance employee with 24 years of service effective June 18.

 ACCEPTED the resignation of Mrs. Ruth Immel, guidance secretary with 10 years of service effective June 13.

 ACCEPTED the adult education teaching resignation of Richard Robinson effective May 30.

 APPROVED a contract between Buckeye Career Center and Ohio Mid Eastern Resource Educational Service Agency of Steubenville for providing student and fiscal services to the district for the 2008-09 school year.

 APPROVED a contract between Buckeye Career Center-Ohio School Boards’ Association in the amount of $500 for continued updating board policy revision services for fiscal year 2009.

 ACCEPTED and approved the request received from the Carrollton Exempted Village School District to abolish the Home Economics Satellite program at Bell Herron Middle School effective for the 2008-09 school year.

 APPROVED a one-year lease agreement between Buckeye Career Center and Ms. Teresa Prince (owner) of the New Beginning horse farm on SR 39, east of New Philadelphia for usage of barn facilities and horses to operate Buckeye’s Equine career technical program for the 2008-09 school year at a monthly cost of $1,000 for a nine-month period.
