A revision in the Brown Local Board of Education's policy regarding worker's compensation was approved at the Feb. 12 meeting of the Board.
Under the revision, a certified person who is injured in the line of duty shall be eligible to receive such compensation and expenses as prescribed by the Worker's Compensation Law of Ohio and a salary continuation agreement of up to four weeks is to be offered to an injured worker who has been ordered by a licensed physician to be off work.
Subsequently, the administration has the right to continue payment of salary after four weeks or to authorize the Bureau of Worker's Compensation to initiate wage loss compensation.
In other business, the Board designated the following Certificates of Deposit as inactive in view of the fact that the terms of maturity are in excess of one year.
They include:
An 18-month CD with 1st National Bank of Nelsonville in the amount of $99,000, maturing May 9, 2007; a 15-month CD with Grange Bank of Columbus in the amount of $99,000, maturing July 2, 2007; an 18-month CD with Sky Bank of Salineville in the amount of $97,000, maturing Dec. 21, 2007; an 18-month CD with Clifton Heights Savings & Loan of Cincinnati in the amount of $99,000, maturing April 2, 2008; a 2-year CD with Center Bank of Milford in the amount of $99,000, maturing May 18, 2008; a 2-year CD with Oak Harbor National Bank in the amount of $50,000, maturing May 24, 2008, and a 2-year CD with Champaign National Bank of Urbana in the amount of $99,144.70, maturing Dec. 18, 2008.
According to School District Treasurer Sandy Moeglin, the interest return rate ranges from 3.5 to 5.5%.
The Board also approved tuition reimbursement applications for Dawn Kaufman, Stephanie Shafer, Jessica Gotchall and Rebecca Kress for coursework completed.
Hired as after school tutors to assist students in reading and math intervention were Jessica Gotchall, Eileen Corbett, Tami Warner, Patty VanHorn, Mike Slayman, Sandy Gahan, Kelly Stutzman, Angie Swanson and Carolee Henderson.
In final action, the Board:
- ACCEPTED a donation of 70 books to the Malvern elementary school from Mr. and Mrs. Richard Scherpenisse of Malvern valued at $280.
- ENTERED into a contract with Herff Jones of Gettysburg, Pa. to produce the 2006-07 Malvern High School yearbook at an approximate cost of $13,581.
- HIRED Lisa Hawkins as junior high track coach for the 2006-07 school year.
- HIRED Shirley Palmer, Kenny Yost and Brandi Smith as classified substitutes, and Jacqueline Carle, Katherine Catlett and Brittani Elsass as certified substitutes for the remainder of the 2006-07 school year.
- APPROVED a $1,200 wrestling fund increase in the appropriations for the 2006-07 school year.
- APPROVED the payment of bills totaling $136,398.71.
- Set the next regular meeting for March 20 at 7 p.m. in the high school library. |
