Carrollton High School's annual commencement ceremony will be held Friday evening, May 30, beginning at 7p.m. at the Community Field stadium on SR 332, just south of Carrollton.
In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the Bell-Herron Middle School gymnasium.
The Baccalaureate service will be held Thursday, May 29, in the Fine Arts room at Carrollton High School starting at 7 p.m.
Four members of this year's graduating class have qualified for valedictorian status with a 4.0 grade point average. According to current requirements, a student must earn an honors diploma and have the highest grade point average in the class to be named a class valedictorian.
To qualify for the honors diploma, students enrolled in an enriched college preparatory curriculum must meet eight of the nine academic requirements.
The four class valedictorians who have each maintained a 4.0 grade point average and will each give addresses at the May 30 commencement exercises are:
Kayla Borland, daughter of Scott and Marcy Borland of 624 N. High St., Carrollton, who plans to attend Indiana Wesleyan University and study pre-medicine.
Carrie Doak, daughter of Pastor Mike and Roberta Doak of 885 Courtview Dr., Carrollton, who will attend Grove City College and study music education.
Kelsea Mapes, daughter of Doug and Margaret Mapes of 5045 Marble Rd., Kensington, who will attend the University of Akron and study biology.
Erika Tallman, daughter of Walter and Theresa Tallman of 5212 Lynn Rd., Minerva, who plans to attend Miami University and study business management.
Commencement Program
The commencement program will include a welcome by School Supt. Kevin J. Spears, followed by the processional of the class of 2008.
Senior members of the Carrollton High School Chamber Chorus, under the direction of Mrs. Mindy D. Domer, will lead the singing of the National Anthem during the flag raising conducted by members of American Legion Posts 428 and 475, VFW Post 3301 and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 85.
The senior Chamber chorus members will also lead the singing of the Carrollton High School Alma Mater, followed by the four 2008 valedictorian addresses.
Diplomas will be presented by Supt. Spears, Carrollton High School Principal David L. Davis and members of the Board of Education.
The ceremony will conclude with the traditional turning of the tassels and recessional.
