New band director asks board if band b oosters could share football concession stand with athletic boosters

By Don Rutledge
FPS Associate Editor

School boardThe Carrollton Board of Education has received a request for the Band Boosters to share the operation of the concession stand at home football games as a possible fund raising opportunity.

David Dickerhoof, who was introduced by Carrollton Schools Supt. Kevin Spears as the new head band director at Carrollton High School, asked the Board at its May 8 meeting if the Band Boosters could share the concession stand at home football games or hold bingo to raise money needed for new band uniforms.

Dickerhoof told the Board that between 300 and 400 letters seeking contributions have been mailed to CHS alumni with a response of some $7,300. "However, we are still in need of approximately $20,000," Dickerhoof told Board members. He explained that at least 90 uniforms are needed, costing $500 each.

Dicerkhoof also told the board the Band Boosters have paid for equipment and instruction in the past and are trying to set up a band budget. He also said he has been contacting other schools for information on how they operate funding raising  and budgets.

"My goal is to work with the Boosters and get the necessary money we need," he added.

Supt. Spears said later that he plans to contact the Athletic Boosters and see if the band can share the operation of the concession stand at home football games.

During his Superintendent's report, Supt. Spears said he is considering a change in the CHS and Bell-Herron schedules for the next school year.

"The school day would start at 7:05 a.m. and end at 2:05 p.m. This would allow the p.m. buses to get the high school students home before returning to make their elementary runs," Spears told the Board.

He also advised the Board they need a Master Plan by the end of May for a proposed school building project and to decide whether they want to change the present plan of building three new school buildings and going back on the ballot.

He also extended congratulations to art winners in the Village of Carrollton's Logo Design contest who included Maggie Fritz, Joseph Silecchia and Ashley Libertore and to Carla Hively and members of the Bell-Herron Middle School Honors Choir who performed at a Music in the Parks Choir Festival in Pittsburgh, PA., recently.
