A new elementary principal was hired and one teacher resignation was accepted by the Conotton Valley Union Local Board of Education at its June 16 meeting.
Michael L. Wright of Uhrichsville was hired as principal at Sherrodsville and Bowerston elementary schools on a two-year contract beginning Aug. 1, 2008, through Sept. 31, 2010, at a salary of $56,000. Wright succeeds Mrs. Margaret Bower who retired.
The Board also accepted the resignation of Jeff Gyurko effective May 30 as junior/senior high health teacher.
In other business, the Board:
RENEWED the liability insurance quote of $5,213 with Ohio School Plan for the period of July 1, 2008, through July 1, 2009, representing a reduction of 10.9% from last year’s quote of $5,855.
AWARDED the bid of $72,558 to Truck Sales of Midvale for the purchase of a 65-passenger school bus, the lowest of two bids received.
APPROVED fiscal year 2009 temporary appropriations totaling $1,779,898.40.
APPROVED membership in the Ohio School Boards Association’s Workers compensation Group II program for 2009 for $1,275, an increase of $65 from the 2008 enrollment fee of $1,210.
APPROVED fiscal year 2008 supplemental appropriations totaling $7,770.
APPROVED a dock day for Monday, June 2, taken by Kristen Nay, who has moved from the school district.
APPROVED a contract from Gymnasium Equipment, Inc. of New Philadelphia to provide materials to renovate the visiting side section of the field bleachers at a cost of $17,688.
APPROVED a contract with National Recreation Systems, Inc. of Fort Wayne, IN., to provide labor for the renovation of the visiting side bleachers at a cost of $3,960.
APPROVED the following volunteer coaches for the 2008-09 school year: Matthew Crall, high school wrestling coach; Sherri Crall, junior/senior high cheerleading coach, and Jesse Loveday, assistant varsity football coach.
APPROVED a contract with Nickles Bakery of Navarre to provide baked goods for the 2008-09 school year.
APPROVED the Bowerston Public Library budget for 2009 totaling $512,692.82.
APPROVED a membership fee of $300 with the Coalition of Rural and Appalachia Schools for the 2008-09 school year.
APPROVED a salary adjustment for Alyssa Mitchell from the bachelor of arts column of the certified salary schedule to the 150 hours column.
APPROVED the maximum amount allowable for a blanket purchase order of $100,000.
APPROVED changes to the junior/senior high school handbook for the 2008-09 school year.
APPROVED an adjustment to the policy manual affecting the graduating class of 2011 allowing school districts to adopt a policy exempting students from the physical education requirement if the student participates for two full seasons in athletics, marching band or cheerleading.
APPROVED expenditures totaling $640,832.89.
HELD a 15-minute executive session to discuss employment of public employees.
SET the next regular meeting for July 21 at 7 p.m. at the administrative offices in Sherrodsville.
At a meeting of the Records Commission comprised of School Supt. Jeff Bleininger, School Treasurer Debra Henry and Board President Rick West held prior to the regular School Board meeting, the Commission approved the records disposal of financial items. |
