What do you do when you have over 350 reservations for a banquet and a cafeteria that seats only 250?
You move the banquet to a larger facility!
That is exactly what happened when the Carrollton FFA (Future Farmers of America) Chapter was planning its annual recognition banquet. The meal was originally to be served in the CHS cafeteria, but when the reservations climbed over the 300 mark, plans had to be amended. The event was moved to the Bell-Herron gymnasium where the facilities were more than adequate.
FFA Advisor Dan Kirk noted that moving the banquet also meant FFA'ers also had to tote everything associated with the event across the street.
"That's not such a problem," Kirk told the large crowd. "The problem is remembering where you got everything so you can put it back!"
He noted there were 30 seniors to recognize during the event, which he said "was awesome."
"Thanks for everything you do," he told them. Along with the individual senior recognition, the students taped messages to their parents and families, which were played as the students and parents stood in front of the crowd.
During the annual event, FFA members, families and friends celebrated the successes of the past year. Awards presented during the program included Distinguished Service certificates, Chapter Degrees, Honorary Chapter Degrees, top fruit salespersons, scholarships, proficiency, and judging teams, Kirk presented Star Green Greenhand and Chapter awards along with the Outstanding Junior and Senior as well as the 100 percent Award- Bruce Flanagan Memorial. The FFA Alumni Association presented two camp scholarships and three college scholarships.
