CCCA is “Best School” once again

FPS staff report

Twenty-five students from the Carroll County Christian Academy participated in the annual Christian Schools of Ohio State Academic and Fine Arts competition held April 2 and 3 in Cleveland.

Students competed state-wide in categories which included Spelling, Math, Science, Political Science, General Bible Knowledge, Bible Memory, Vocal and Instrumental music, Dramatic Acting, Creative Writing, Puppets, Home Economics, Art, Photography, Desktop Publishing, Bible Teaching and Preaching.

The Carroll County Christian Academy students won the Best School award for the fifth time. This most prestigious award is given to the one school whose students’ scores - when averaged together along with the student participation - rank the highest.

Christian Academy students who placed first in their respective competition categories are listed as follows.

Junior High
Destinee Stidom, 8th grade, Bible teaching.
Senior High

Daniel Stover, 12th grade, Bible Memory and Preaching.
Victoria Stover, 9th grade, Bible Teaching, Spelling and Graphic Design.
Any Powell, 11th grade, Political Science and Poetry.
Jonathan Gassman, 12th grade, and Cara Gassman, 11th, grade, Piano Duet.

Jonathan Gassman, 12th grade, Bible Old Testament.
Superior Ratings

Receiving Superior I ratings were a Vocal Men’s Trio comprised of Jon Gassman, Daniel Stover and Eric Weber; a Vocal Ladies Trio whose members were Cara Gassman, Alicia Powell and Victoria Stover, and a vocal solo by Jonathan Gassman. Mrs. Sherry McCort served as the piano accompanist for the trios and solo.

Also receiving superior I ratings were Amy Powell and Destinee Stidom for Photography; Jon Gassman, Art Drawing; Mary Price, Home Economics/Machine Sewing; Christian Mann, Woodworking; Amy Powell and Danae Dawson, Alicia Powell and Eric Weber, Jon Gassman and Daniel Stover, all Duet Acting; Allison Dawson, Science Biology; Victoria Stover, Cara Gassman, Amy Powell, Mica McCort, Allison Dawson, Destinee Stidom, Rebecca Powell, Danae Dawson, Vicki Heck, Alissa Seibert and Alicia Powell, Bible teaching.

Receiving second place awards in the state were:

Eric Weber, 9th grade, Bible Memory; Danae Dawson, 11th grade; Bible Teaching and Home Economics/Machine Sewing; Daniel Stover, 12th Grade, Spelling and Bible OT; Jonathan Gassman, 12th grade, Physics and Political Science, and Christian Mann, 10th grade, Woodworking.

Teams receiving second place were the General Bible Knowledge team, consisting of Jonathan Gassman, Alicia Powell, Amy Powell, Daniel Stover, Victoria Stover and Eric Weber, and the Specific Book Team whose members were Alicia Powell, Amy Powell, Daniel Stover, Victoria Stover and Eric Weber.

Christian Academy students placing third in the state were:

Benjamin Stover, 8th grade, Spelling; Daniel Stover, 12th Grade, Physics and Political Science, and Amy Powell, 11th grade, Bible NT.

Christian Academy faculty members who assisted in the area of judging were Joseph Jacobs, Principal; Nathan Snode and Mrs. Regina Stover, both high school teachers.
