Back to School Safety and Wellness Extravaganza scheduled for Aug. 10

FPS staff report

The first day of school is right around the corner.

Safe Kids Carroll County wants to kick off the school year right by inviting you to the annual Back to School Safety & Wellness Extravaganza on Saturday, Aug. 10 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Carroll County Fairgrounds just north of Carrollton on Rt. 9 (Kensington Rd.)

Free school supplies will be provided to school age through fifth grade students. Annie Speaker will be providing free back to school haircuts. Participate in a variety of interactive safety and wellness stations educating on safety in the home, in vehicles, while camping, in the water, internet safety, sport safety, nutrition, physical activity and much, much more.  Also see a school bus up close, emergency vehicles up close, and play in a big inflatable. A drawing will be held to win one of 50 backpacks filled with school supplies.  Feel free to bring your own reusable bag so you can put plenty of information and giveaways in. The Carroll County Early Childhood Coordinating Committee will also be sponsoring free preschool screenings that include hearing, vision, dental, and medical screenings.

A bike rodeo will be held during the event. Riders will learn about bicycle safety and receive a bicycle helmet if they do not have one at home. Bicycles will be provided, no need to bring your own. A drawing will be held for two new bikes.

The Back to School Safety & Wellness Extravaganza is hosted by Safe Kids Carroll County. Safe Kids Carroll County is led by the Carroll County General Health District. For more information on this event and Safe Kids, please contact Amy Campbell, Safe Kids Carroll County Coordinator at 330-627-4866 ext. 57.
