Cari Molnar, Taylor Thompson named CHS Students of the Month

FPS staff report

Chosen as Students of the Month for January at Carrollton High School are Cari Molnar and Taylor Thompson.

Daughter of AJ and Dawn Molnar of 405 5th St. NW, Carrollton, Cari ranks 1st academically in her senior class of 184 members with a 4.0 grade point average (GPA). Upon graduation, Cari plans to attend the University of Akron and major in chemical engineering.

Cari has two sisters, Ashley and Stacy, and is a four-year member of the volleyball team at CHS, Student Council, National Honor Society and Caring, Helping, Sharing (CHS) Club.

When asked what teacher, coach, family member or special friend has influenced her and why, Cari replied:

“My Poppy has been and still continues to be the strongest, most determined and most influential person in my life. He’s not only been the inspiration for what I want to do in my life, but he has been the person who encourages me to be all that I can.”

In offering advice for success in life, Cari said: “Try your hardest in everything you do and you will achieve your goals.”

Thompson is a son of Marjorie J. Thompson of 544 12th St. NW, Carrollton, ranks 10th academically in his senior class with a 3.776 GPA. Upon graduation, Taylor plans to attend either Princeton University or Loyola University in Chicago, majoring in philosophy or economics. His career plans include either finance or law, although he says he might pursue politics later.

At CHS, Taylor is co-captain of the golf team and president of the Speech team, having been a state and national qualifier. He is also captain of the Academic Challenge team, president of the National Honor Society and vice president of the class of 2010. He works part-time at the Days Inn.

His hobbies include reading, usually history, politics and science fiction, playing golf, watching/memorizing lots of movies, impersonating public figures and playing Xbox. He has a sister, Kelsie, age 9.

When asked what teacher, coach, family member or special friend has influenced him and why, Taylor said:

“My mom because of the sacrifice she has made for our family and for showing strength, humor and love everyday.”

In offering advice for success in life, Thompson said: “Avoid taking advice, if you can. Teach yourself through focused study and long reflection on your mistakes. Learn from every situation.”

As Students of the Month, both Cari and Taylor become eligible for a $500 scholarship to be awarded by McDonalds at the conclusion of the 2009-10 school year to one boy and one girl.

They also will have their pictures displayed in the show case at CHS and will be treated to lunch by Carrollton High School Principal David Davis.
